Dating back to Roman times, the actual structure we can see today dates back to the XIV century. With its impressive marble facade the church of San Michele in Foro is part of the Line of Saint Micheal, a postulated ley line connecting all the cults of this Saint, from Ireland to Greece.

The bustling commercial road of Lucca has been since the Roman times a central part of the Lucchese daily life. Today home to a multitude of shops and boutiques, its fascinating atmosphere persists today, especially during the Christmas period when the lights turn the road into a golden river of shopping.

Built on the ruins of the ancient roman amphitheater, this one of a kind round square was home to the farmers market of the city for many centuries.

The Cathedral of the city is not just the focal point of the religious celebrations but also home to one of the most important relics of Lucca, the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto, patron of the city. The building is a massive white marble Romanic style church, and it was built at the edge of the city precisely to facilitate access to all worshipers.

The walls of Lucca are perhaps the most iconic sight of the city: these 4.2 km long walls were built as we see them today in the Renaissance, and kept in pristine condition allowing the citizens to enjoy lovely walks, runs, and promenade, all year round.
